Khao Yai Wild Elephant Electrocuted by Farmer’s Electric Fence

Nakhon ratchasima: A wild elephant in Khao Yai was electrocuted by a villager’s electric fence. Veterinarians are urgently monitoring the elephant’s condition and treating it. Khao Yai National Park is preparing to take legal action against the owner of the electric fence.

According to Thai News Agency, a male wild elephant was electrocuted by a farmer’s electric fence in Pong Talong Subdistrict, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The elephant was found with blood coming from the tip of its trunk and diarrhea. Mr. Chaiya Huai Hongthong, head of Khao Yai National Park, revealed that yesterday, the headman of Pong Talong Subdistrict reported finding a male elephant lying flat on the ground with the tip of his trunk caught in the wire of an electric fence used by villagers to protect their crops. Officials from the Khao Yai National Park Ranger Unit 3 (Takhian Ngam) inspected the area and were able to push the elephant back into the park’s boundary. They also coordinated with a veterinary team to examine and assess the elephant’s condition.

The owner of the electric fence stated that it was installed to protect the gaur, but suspected a short circuit caused the elephant to suffer an electric shock. The park chief has ordered officials to file a police report against the owner of the electric fence.
