Khon Kaen’s “Thai Helps Thai” Event Draws Crowds for Affordable Goods

Khon kaen: The Khon Kaen Provincial Community Hall was bustling with activity as residents flocked to the first-ever "Thai Helps Thai" event, designed to alleviate the cost of living by providing affordable goods. The lively atmosphere was marked by numerous shoppers seeking consumer products at significantly reduced prices.

According to Thai News Agency, the event showcased a wide array of essential daily necessities, such as eggs, rice, dried food, drinking water, and household items including dishwashing liquid and laundry detergent. Discounts of approximately 10-15% were offered on most products, alongside buy-one-get-one-free promotions, which sustained public interest throughout the day.

Mr. Phanthep Saokosol, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province, presided over the opening ceremony, emphasizing the project's importance in helping to reduce living costs amid the current economic conditions. Ms. Busaba Ouanpromma, a local resident, shared that she successfully purchased essential items at rates considerably below market prices, citing examples like fish sauce for just 15 baht per bottle and budget-friendly cooking oil. She expressed a hope for the continuation of such events to ease the financial strain on low-income families.

In addition to basic consumer goods, the event also offered OTOP products and local specialties at special prices. Items such as fermented fish chili paste, Khao Suan Kwang grilled chicken, Nam Dok Mai golden mangoes, processed bamboo shoots, and fermented fish were available. Mobile vendors selling fresh produce contributed to the event's vibrancy and stimulated the local economy.

The "Thai Helps Thai" initiative aims to continue its mission of reducing living costs by holding events every Friday throughout May, reaching all districts within Khon Kaen province. This ensures that residents have ample access to affordable goods, further supporting the community's economic well-being.
