Chiang mai: Chiang Mai City Police swiftly apprehended a kidnapping and ransom gang after a child was abducted at 3 am this morning. The ransom demanded was over 100,000 baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Yutthana Kaenchan, Commander of the Chiang Mai Provincial Police, held a press conference announcing the arrest of a kidnapping and ransom gang. The arrest followed a report received by Chiang Mai City Police Station at 4:00 AM on August 27th from Mr. Fachet Saehuang, who stated that he had been called by his brother, Mr. Faees Saehuang, who had been kidnapped and a ransom of 120,000 baht was demanded for his release.
Subsequently, police investigators learned that on August 27th, at approximately 3:00 AM, Mr. Faees Sae-Huong was abducted by a group of about four men. The incident occurred on Charoen Prathet Road, Chang Khlan Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai Province. He was forced into a black Mazda car with a dent on the right rear side and no license plate. After the abduction, the perpetrators fled. Later, at approximately 8:00 AM, while Mr. Faees, the informant, was providing information to police investigators at the Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station, Mr. Faees contacted him by phone, stating that the perpetrators demanded a ransom of 600,000 baht. Mr. Faees had negotiated the amount down to 120,000 baht.
Once an agreement was reached, the criminals arranged for Mr. Facet to deposit the ransom money by the Ping River, near the Hang Mae Pong pier. Upon learning this, the investigating police officers reported the matter to their superiors and held a meeting to plan the arrest of the criminals.
They then traveled to the rendezvous point and positioned themselves around it. Afterward, they had Mr. Facet drive his motorcycle to the location to leave the ransom money near an electric pole.
After Mr. Facet paid the ransom money and drove away on his motorcycle, a 25-year-old man named Basu (no surname given), the first suspect, arrived at the meeting point on a motorcycle. He dismounted and retrieved the ransom money. Upon seeing this, the investigating police officers identified themselves and apprehended him. A search of his person revealed no illegal items, but the box containing the ransom money was found nearby.
Mr. Bazoo confessed to collecting the ransom money and admitted that Mr. Faees was being held captive at a hotel in Tambon Khang Phueak, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai Province. Investigating officers then inspected the hotel and found a black Mazda car without license plates, matching the description from CCTV footage of the incident - the vehicle used to abduct the victim. The police identified themselves and stopped the vehicle for inspection. Inside the car, they found Mr. Faees Sae-Huong, the victim, with signs of physical assault on his face and a severe laceration near his left ear. They also found Mr. Ritthidet or "Ice" Manta, 28 years old (suspect 2), Mr. Thanapol or "Beer" Pathumma, 27 years old (suspect 3), and Mr. Wan (no surname given), 14 years old (suspect 4). All three suspects were apprehended. During questioning, all three confessed to abducting Mr. Faees Sae-Huong for ransom. The police officers then informed the suspect of the charges and their rights under detention. They subseque ntly took the suspect, along with the seized evidence, to the investigating officer at Chiang Mai City Police Station for further legal proceedings.
