Bangkok: "Koravee" dissects the People's Party's behavior, distorting and accusing them of misinterpreting the amnesty issue by excluding cases under Article 112 but instead absolving those who overthrew the election and colluded with the Senate.
According to Thai News Agency, the government's chief whip criticized the People's Party's behavior, accusing them of blatant distortion and falsely claiming that government MPs voted in favor of the Senate's amnesty bill. This bill excluded cases under Article 112 but cleared those involved in election sabotage and collusion with the Senate. He argued that this was an unacceptable standard for a political party claiming superiority, which has lowered its own standards. He questioned who is responsible for the public's misunderstanding, stating that this wasn't scrutiny but a blatant lie.
Koravee Prisnanantakul, MP for Ang Thong and Chief Government Whip, posted on Facebook stating that the People's Party had accused "Government MPs of voting in favor of the Senate's amnesty bill, excluding cases under Article 112, but clearing those involved in election sabotage and Senate collusion." He stated that this was a distortion of the truth. He clarified that there was no mention of the Senate collusion case in the draft law; it was absent from the beginning, not amended, and there was no vote on this matter.
He emphasized that this isn't a difference of opinion but a distortion of facts. The draft law reaffirms the same principle as in the previous parliament, which is to exclude offenses under Article 112 of the Criminal Code. This has been the stance of the Bhumjaithai Party and many other political parties since the beginning.
Regarding political protest cases, whether involving the Yellow Shirts, Red Shirts, PDDG (People's Democratic Reform Committee) airport closures, or past political events, this amnesty law was necessary to heal the wounds and political conflicts that have persisted for decades. Mixing issues not covered by the law with real events to mislead the public is not investigation; it is lying and distorting facts.
After the post was published, many people misunderstood. The People's Party's page later corrected the message. The question remains, now that the truth has been corrected, who will take responsibility for the public's misunderstanding? How will the People's Party take responsibility for this action? Politics should be open to scrutiny, debate, and differing opinions. But is this the new way of doing politics that uses falsehoods as a weapon and slander as a tool for political gain? It shouldn't be the standard for a political party that claims to have high standards. If they want to elevate politics, they must raise their own standards, not lower them to such a low level.
