Bangkok: Koravee Prisnanantakul, MP for Ang Thong and Chairman of the Government Whip, Bhumjaithai Party, has revealed that Parliament has not yet received the Constitutional Court's ruling regarding the emergency decree on borrowing money. He has referred the matter of convening an extraordinary session of Parliament to the Cabinet for further discussion.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Koravee commented on the potential need for an extraordinary parliamentary session to address the Royal Decree, which authorizes the Ministry of Finance to borrow funds to mitigate the energy crisis's effects and support the country's energy transition by 2026. He stated that he learned about the issue through media reports and confirmed that Parliament has not officially received the Constitutional Court's ruling. He anticipates that the official ruling will be sent to Parliament shortly.
The decision to convene an extraordinary session rests on Cabinet discussions, as the law was initially proposed by them. Mr. Koravee noted that if the Cabinet deems that waiting for the regular parliamentary session would cause delays, they might request an extraordinary session during the recess. However, with the Royal Decree concluding the current parliamentary session expected to be read this evening, it may already be too late for such a request.
