Korn Calls for Government Action Against Scammers with Five Key Demands

Bangkok:Korn Chatikavanij, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, has made a strong appeal to the government and legal experts to take decisive action against scammers in Thailand. He emphasized that for the "Bangkok Blueprint" to be effective, it must result in practical outcomes domestically, rather than just theoretical frameworks. Korn highlighted the importance of independent suppression and investigation to address the structural issues causing delays in legal cases.

According to Thai News Agency, Korn stressed the need for a more concrete approach to tackling cybercrime and scam networks. He urged Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapha and the government to focus on eradicating these networks within Thailand, moving beyond mere policy discussions. Korn presented five critical issues that require immediate government action.

The first issue addresses the economic damage and loss of lives caused by online fraud, with approximately 1.3 million cases leading to over 120 billion baht in losses. This figure represents the devastation of lifelong savings and family collapses, particularly affecting vulnerable groups.

Secondly, Korn highlighted the US House of Representatives' potential sanctions against scammer networks, including a former Thai Deputy Minister of Finance. He called for Thai authorities to proactively investigate those in power without relying on international pressure.

The third concern involves data leaks within government systems, raising alarms about citizens' data security. Korn urged the government to explain the vulnerabilities, solutions, and accountability in light of malware incidents.

Fourth, Korn criticized the delays in investigating the Thai capital market, urging the Securities and Exchange Commission to take swift action against networks allegedly involved in scams within the stock market.

Lastly, Korn addressed governance issues within audit organizations, pointing to conflicts of interest involving high-ranking officials. He urged the Minister to use legal authority to remove these individuals to ensure transparency and integrity.

Korn concluded by stating that while Thai agencies have seized assets in transnational cases, there is a need for faster action against local individuals with connections. He reiterated that the success of the "Bangkok Blueprint" depends on translating international principles into effective domestic actions, including data protection, financial tracing, and victim support.
