Trang:Kru Sai Thai Dessert Shop in Trang province has introduced a new line of "auspicious vegetarian desserts" for the Vegetarian Festival. The offerings include peach-shaped sweets, golden sweets, and lotus-shaped sweets, each carrying symbolic meanings of good fortune, wealth, and purity.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Pakwan Petchdam, the owner of Kru Sai Thai Desserts, explained that the peach-shaped dessert symbolizes good fortune in Chinese culture. The "Golden Dessert" represents wealth and prosperity, while the "Lotus Flower Dessert" stands for purity and respect.
The peach-shaped pastries are crafted with a vegan recipe, using ingredients like flour and coconut milk, and filled with sweetened mung bean paste. They undergo a baking process of about 4-5 hours and can be kept outside the refrigerator for up to 10 days. The golden pastries are filled with pineapple, offering a sweet and sour flavor.
The large peach-shaped sweets are priced at 35 baht each or two for 70 baht, while the small ones are available as four pieces for 70 baht. A set of all three auspicious items costs 100 baht.
This year's vegetarian festival has attracted both returning and new customers to the shop. Ms. Petchdam noted that all kitchen ingredients have been adapted to a vegetarian recipe, replacing cow's milk with vegan alternatives. Some customers buy these sweets to offer to deities and later share them with family, elders, or respected individuals.
The shop, located at the PTT gas station in Nayong Tai, Trang Province, also maintains a page titled "Kru Sai's Thai Desserts, Desserts for Offering to Lord Ganesha in Trang," where interested individuals can follow their festival offerings.
