Kusumalawati Files Defamation Suit Against Deputy Prime Minister Anutin for “Stubborn” Remark

Bangkok: Former Senate candidate Kusumalawati Sirikomut has initiated legal proceedings against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, alleging defamation due to his derogatory comments. The lawsuit, filed at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road, accuses Anutin of defamation by advertising, following his remarks labeling Kusumalawati as “a stubborn person” with a “bad personality” and a tendency to lie.

According to Thai News Agency, Kusumalawati claims that the statements are defamatory and inappropriate for a senior government figure. She argues that as a citizen, she has the right to seek justice under Article 41 of the Constitution by filing a petition with government agencies. Kusumalawati intends to claim 30 million baht in damages if she prevails in the defamation case and subsequently pursues a civil lawsuit.

Kusumalawati previously lodged a complaint with the Election Commission (EC), emphasizing the need to protect democracy and challenge improper processes. She argues that the dominance of senators and independent organizations like the NACC and EC threatens the country’s survival, necessitating her call for the dissolution of involved parties under political party law.

Kusumalawati insists that the insults directed at her were personal attacks rather than public interest criticisms. She asserts that her reputation, particularly as a former member of the House of Representatives from Maha Sarakham Province, is at stake. She has consulted her lawyer, stressing the importance of defending the dignity of her constituents, who prioritize values over money and power.

In a tearful statement, Kusumalawati expressed concerns for her safety, citing threats received after submitting her petition. Despite fears, she remains resolute, questioning why she faces attacks while striving for national betterment. She emphasized that her actions are not politically motivated, having already resigned from party membership to pursue a Senate candidacy.

Kusumalawati is unwavering in her pursuit to dissolve the Bhumjaithai Party, believing it is beyond the party’s role to question her sources of evidence. Confident in her documentation, she plans to present photographic evidence of interactions between a blue-shirt senator and Anutin at the Pullman Hotel to the media.

“I’m a cat, I have to do it,” Kusumalawati remarked, referencing her determination to pursue justice. She remains firm in her decision not to withdraw the lawsuit and distances herself from the metaphorical “cat” role, stating a disdain for engaging with what she views as corrupt elements.
