Jakarta: The death toll from a landslide in Indonesia's West Java province has increased to 49 people, with 15 individuals still unaccounted for. The landslide, which struck the village of Pasir Langku in the Bandung Barat region on January 24, was attributed to heavy rainfall.
According to Thai News Agency, the landslide comes in the wake of previous floods and landslides caused by storms on the island of Sumatra late last year. These events resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and displaced over one million individuals.
In light of the recent disaster, Basarnas, Indonesia's main disaster relief agency, extended its emergency response period by seven days until February 6. Despite the ongoing challenges, Basarnas faced a budget reduction by a parliamentary committee on Wednesday, raising concerns about the agency's capacity to handle the increasing number of disasters.
