Khon kaen: Lao man and his two children were arrested for delivering methamphetamine during the Songkran festival. Khon Kaen police detained a Laotian and a Thai drug dealer who were using their car, accompanied by their two children, to distribute methamphetamine pills to customers amid the festivities. A subsequent investigation uncovered an additional stash of 16,000 pills concealed at their residence.
According to Thai News Agency, Khon Kaen Provincial Police investigators conducted a search of a silver Honda sedan with Khon Kaen license plates, which was parked near a public park in Tha Phra Subdistrict, Mueang Khon Kaen District. The search was part of a sting operation targeting drug distribution. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered the driver, Mr. Thanin, 31, along with a Laotian woman and two children. The search yielded 2,000 methamphetamine pills, and both adults confessed to possessing more drugs for sale. This confession led to a search of their home in Tha Phra Subdistrict, where authorities found an additional 16,000 pills hidden in another vehicle.
Police have filed serious charges against the suspects and are working to expand the investigation to uncover the entire drug network. Police Colonel Yosawat Kaewsubthanynit, Superintendent of Khon Kaen City Police Station, disclosed that the suspect admitted to acquiring the drugs from a man named Bas. During the Songkran festival, the suspect noted a high demand among small-scale customers who intended to resell methamphetamine for personal use during the celebrations. Consequently, he was charged with "jointly distributing Category 1 narcotics by possessing them for sale, for trade, and causing their distribution among the public."
Additionally, Mr. Thanin faces charges of drug use after his urine test returned positive results. Authorities are now working to trace and dismantle his broader network.
