Bangkok: A Laotian man accused of murdering and dismembering his girlfriend has been extradited to Thung Song Hong Police Station for prosecution. Immigration police apprehended the suspect, who was attempting to flee the country, and extradited him to face charges related to the gruesome crime.
According to Thai News Agency, the suspect, identified as Mr. Tom, allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Ms. Ram, out of jealousy. The murder occurred after a heated argument, following which Mr. Tom reportedly dismembered Ms. Ram's body and disposed of the parts in eight separate bags. These bags were subsequently thrown into a canal and scattered across other locations in Nonthaburi Province.
The investigation was initiated after Mr. Dech, Ms. Ram's brother, reported her disappearance to the authorities. CCTV footage revealed Mr. Tom leaving the couple's apartment with a black bag, raising suspicions about his involvement in the crime. The footage further detailed Mr. Tom's movements on the night of the incident, which included carrying black bags in and out of the apartment.
Late yesterday evening, Nong Khai Immigration officials detained Mr. Tom while he was attempting to cross the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge No. 1. Initially, he denied the charges, claiming that Ms. Ram had stabbed herself. However, he later confessed to the dismemberment after police expanded their investigation.
The suspect, who was in a long-term relationship with Ms. Ram, allegedly committed the crime due to recurring arguments and suspicions of infidelity. He confessed to murdering her with a kitchen knife after she fell asleep. Following the crime, Mr. Tom attempted to dispose of the body parts and flee to Laos but was intercepted by the authorities.
Mr. Tom has been charged with intentional homicide and concealing a corpse. He is currently in custody at Thung Song Hong Police Station, where he will face further legal proceedings.
