Bangkok:Sittha Biabangkerd, popularly known as Lawyer Tum, has brought to light intricate details of the "Chang Beer" ticket scandal involving a key political figure known as Big Jok. In a live-stream on his program "Sittha Talk," Tum delved into Big Jok's connections with a People's Party MP, revealing how their relationship began in 2019 when Big Jok was associated with the Prime Minister's Office.
According to Thai News Agency, Sittha explained that Big Jok approached him to help expose certain documents after being embroiled in a biometrics scandal. The documents reportedly included the name of the then-Police Chief's son. Sittha refused to get involved, but Big Jok persisted by reaching out to other associates, eventually contacting MP Rangsiman to orchestrate the exposure of sensitive information.
Sittha recounted the series of meetings with Big Jok and noted Big Jok's deep affection for the Orange Party. Even though Big Jok sought assistance from Prayut Chan-o-cha to return to the Royal Thai Police, he utilized supporters from the Orange Party to reveal damaging information against his adversaries. This strategic maneuver included leveraging a House of Representatives committee chaired by Rangsiman.
In his revelations, Sittha highlighted Big Jok's denial of accepting money from illicit activities, maintaining that his income as Deputy Commissioner of Police included a substantial monthly fuel allowance, without additional corrupt gains. Sittha expressed concern over being potentially used by Big Jok to undermine the police organization.
The implications of the scandal are significant, as Sittha cautioned against the misuse of political influence to harm state institutions. If the allegations of document disclosure by a former Deputy Commissioner of Police are validated, it could result in criminal charges under Section 164 of the Criminal Code and disciplinary actions under the Civil Service Act.
