Bangkok:Lawyer Tum has taken decisive action by accompanying nearly 10 victims to file a police report against Boom Panadda in connection with a scandal involving the misuse of donation money intended for public aid.
According to Thai News Agency, Boom Panadda is facing serious charges including public fraud, money laundering, and violations of the Computer Crime Act. An arrest warrant might be issued soon, as indicated by Lawyer Tum, whose real name is Mr. Sittra Biabangkerd. He led a group to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to lodge their complaint against Ms. Panadda Wongphudee, widely known as Boom Panadda, following the investigation that revealed the diversion of donated funds for personal use.
Victims from various provinces, including Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chonburi, have expressed their distress over the situation. The first complainant, who donated 100,000 baht, intended to support flood relief efforts in Hat Yai last year through Boom Panadda's "Do Good" organization. She was dismayed to learn that her donation was allegedly used for constructing a pool villa and purchasing designer items, rather than aiding those in need.
Another victim from Prachuap Khiri Khan, who contributed over 200,000 baht in cash and goods, including boxes of dried squid for soldiers and villagers, discovered discrepancies in the use of her donations. Her funds, intended for flood relief in Pattani, were allegedly misdirected to personal accounts. She urged the public not to judge the donors harshly as they were misled in their charitable intentions.
Attorney Tum emphasized that the misappropriation of funds under false pretenses is a clear case of fraud. He noted that the legal repercussions could include a prison sentence of up to 20 years, given the fraudulent intent and the substantial financial evidence against the defendants. The prosecution of the case is bolstered by compelling evidence, and arrest warrants for at least two people may be forthcoming as investigations progress.
