Bangkok: The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) has announced an exciting celestial event set to occur from the night of November 17th to the morning of November 18th, 2025. Sky watchers can look forward to witnessing the “Leonid meteor shower,” with an expected average peak of 15 meteors per hour. The shower’s center is located in the Leo constellation, and the best viewing times are recommended to be after midnight.
According to Thai News Agency, the Leonid meteor shower is a result of debris from comet 55P Tempel-Tuttle, which completes an orbit around the Sun every 33 years. As Earth passes through this debris field each November, the gravitational pull of the comet draws rocks and dust into our atmosphere. These particles burn up upon entry, creating bright streaks of light visible in the night sky.
For optimal viewing of the Leonid meteor shower, enthusiasts are advised to look towards the constellation Leo, which will rise above the horizon at 1:00 AM on November 18th. Observations can continue until dawn, with the absence of moonlight providing clear conditions. Choosing a location away from city lights will enhance the viewing experience, allowing for better visibility of the meteors.
