Nakhon ratchasima: Commemorating the 4th anniversary of the passing of Sarapong Chatree, the renowned actor and National Artist in Performing Arts for the year 2008, a solemn merit-making ceremony was held at the Somdej Phra Phutthacharn (To Phromrangsi) Foundation in Ban Non Kum, Sikhiu District. The event was marked by the return of Sorapong Chatree's lifelike bronze statue to his spiritual home.
According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony was organized by Duangduen Jithaisong, Sorapong Chatree's wife and chairperson of the foundation, alongside family members. The bronze statue, completed in late 2025, was placed in the Somdej Phra Phutthacharn (To Phromrangsi) Grand Temple Park. Phra Phromsenabodi, a member of the Supreme Sangha Council, presided over the religious rituals, while Gen. Poldej Chulsen, Honorary Advisor to the foundation, led the lay ceremony. Sorapong's sons, Aim - Phisarut Thiemsewet and Aum - Patthakrit Thiemsewet, along with National Artist Chaichana Boonachoti and his wife, Pikul Boonachoti, were present to honor the late actor.
The event featured merit-making activities such as chanting, offering robes to monks, and providing lunch for them. Post-ceremony, Duangduen Jithaisong, with her sons and other Dharma followers, distributed relief bags containing essential supplies to the elderly and villagers in the area.
Duangduen expressed her gratitude towards the monks, her family, and the local community for their support and participation in the event. She emphasized the significance of the statue's placement in the Sorapong Chatree Museum pavilion at the Luang Pu To Temple Park, a location dear to Sorapong, who often welcomed visitors there. Duangduen reaffirmed her commitment to realizing Sorapong's vision of making the foundation a spiritual haven for Buddhists, despite current challenges.
Sorapong's sons, Aim and Aum, reflected on their father's legacy as a role model for generosity and dedication. They shared that Sorapong instilled in them the values of mindfulness and virtue, encouraging them to support and uphold Buddhist principles.
National Artist Chaichana Boonachoti and his wife contributed to the tribute by performing "Bangkok Noi," a song cherished by Sorapong Chatree, further honoring his memory.
