Bangkok: Local gangsters attacked villagers at a folk music festival, causing chaos and violence at Wat Ban Nong Sai, Mueang District. A video shows a man in a yellow shirt embroiled in an argument with a teenager, leading to an escalation where punches, chairs, sticks, and metal objects were used against him. After the assault, the attackers left the scene nonchalantly. Rescue workers provided first aid to the injured man before transporting him to the hospital for treatment of a severe head wound.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Kanokkorn, the girlfriend of the injured man, recounted that a confrontation occurred at a merit-making event for a folk music performance. The altercation began when her boyfriend hugged an unknown man, prompting questions and eventual violence from another group. Ms. Kanokkorn attempted to assist her boyfriend but was also attacked. She expressed a firm stance against compromising with the attackers and mentioned she hasn’t reported the incident to the police due to her injuries, which include a broken finger and a swollen arm.
In a separate incident, a family dispute led to a knife fight between a nephew and his uncle in Sam Phrao subdistrict. At around 5 a.m., police responded to a stabbing report and found Mr. Somsak, or Fanta, with a head wound. He was waiting for assistance while the other party, Mr. Chatri, or Nueng, had fled the scene. Police later located Mr. Chatri near a hotel, injured and exhausted, with a stab wound and a knife nearby. Both were unable to be questioned due to the severity of their injuries.
Fanta’s mother indicated that the family members frequently clashed, with Mr. Chatri often disciplining Fanta unsuccessfully. She noted that Mr. Chatri, a distant relative and her lover, occasionally stays at their home due to nearby performances. Villagers shared that tensions between the men existed prior to the incident, attributing the escalation to Mr. Fanta’s resentment towards his uncle’s relationship with his mother, despite her having another foreign partner.
