Bangkok: A young man driving a luxury car, returning from watching the World Cup, crashed into a tuk-tuk, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 4 AM when CCTV footage captured the moment a tuk-tuk, carrying two passengers, was exiting Soi 12 in a housing estate in Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province. As it turned right, the speeding black luxury car collided with the tuk-tuk and subsequently swerved into a tree. The tragic accident claimed the lives of the tuk-tuk driver, Ms. Prathumporn, 37, and her two passengers, Ms. Phat, 77, and Ms. Lamai, 82, who died instantly.
Mr. Rungsak, the husband of the tuk-tuk driver, was left devastated upon arriving at the scene and discovering his wife's lifeless body. He recounted that his girlfriend had been working as a tuk-tuk driver for years, frequently ferrying his two aunts to the Bang Bua Thong market. Overcome with grief, Mr. Rungsak shared that he had been living with his girlfriend for over 20 years, and they had two children together. He expressed his desire for authorities and the media to ensure the case is thoroughly investigated, as he is now left to support his family alone.
The 32-year-old driver of the luxury car, found to be highly intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 152 milligrams per cent, remained at the scene to provide a statement to the police. He admitted to having just returned from watching the World Cup at a restaurant in the Ratchaphruek area and pledged to take responsibility for the accident. Despite being questioned by the relatives of the deceased about his alcohol consumption, he chose not to respond.
Ms. Namploy, the niece of the deceased passengers, recounted how her aunts were on their way to sell snacks at the market when the incident occurred. She described her shock and sorrow upon witnessing the aftermath and voiced her commitment to pursuing legal action. The police conducted an initial blood alcohol test on the driver and subsequently took him to the police station for further legal proceedings.
