Mae Sai: All sectors are rushing to help people in flooded areas in Mae Sai District. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that after Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, ordered Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as Chairman of the Disaster Relief Committee, to urgently provide assistance to the people in the case of water from the Sai River overflowing into the communities along the Sai River at the 1st Friendship Bridge Border Checkpoint, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province.
According to Thai News Agency, the situation in Mae Sai District has resulted in some damaged roads. The military and the administrative sector have mobilized big bags to control the situation. Meanwhile, the Army Engineer Department has accelerated the construction of a drainage embankment in the Mae Sai community area, expected to be completed by June 2025. The drainage is not yet fully efficient, but once completed, it will significantly improve drainage in the district.
In response to the flood situation, all relevant officials and agencies have mobilized to address the crisis in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province. The water entry points at the 1st Friendship Bridge and the Mai Lung Khon Public Park have been closed, and the leakage point at Tam Sai Lom Choy has been sealed.
The water level in the community has been decreasing, with military units and members of the Volunteer Defense Corps assisting in cleaning residences and relocating belongings. The province has also prepared evacuation points and communicated these to residents in case of further flooding. Additional water pumps, totaling six, have been installed to prepare for new water masses, and the Department of Military Engineering has reinforced water protection lines in weak areas.
Residents are urged to stay informed about the water situation and follow government announcements to be ready to move belongings or evacuate if necessary. Continuous rain is expected in Chiang Rai Province and 51 other provinces nationwide until May 27. The Prime Minister has instructed all provincial governors to closely monitor areas with heavy rainfall and provide urgent assistance to affected people when needed.
