Bangkok: Authorities intercepted a pickup truck carrying vegetables concealing over 1.6 tons of crystal meth and ketamine. A man driving a pickup truck transporting cabbage was arrested for the crime. He confessed to receiving 100,000 baht per trip and admitted to having done this twice before.
According to Thai News Agency, Police General Samran Nuanma, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Police, announced the arrest of a major drug trafficking network and the seizure of 900 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and over 700 kilograms of ketamine, totaling over 1.6 tons. The drugs were smuggled in from the border of Tak province, concealed under cabbage, before being apprehended in Bang Pa-in district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province.
The suspect admitted to receiving 100,000 baht per trip, which he used to pay for his sick child's medical treatment. He had previously transported drugs on two other occasions. This arrest is an extension of a crackdown on a major drug stash in Kamphaeng Saen District, Nakhon Pathom Province, on March 5th, which resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of nearly 1,400 kilograms of narcotics. Authorities are preparing to expand the investigation to include other members of the network and locate additional drug stash locations.
