Bangkok: A multi-vehicle pile-up involving over 50 cars in Japan has resulted in fatalities and injuries. Japanese police revealed that a major road accident occurred late Friday local time, involving a collision between two trucks that triggered a chain reaction involving more than 50 vehicles. Some vehicles caught fire, and it took firefighters seven and a half hours to extinguish the blazes.
According to Thai News Agency, one person, a woman, died in the incident, and at least 26 were injured, five of whom are in critical condition. The accident occurred on the Kan'etsu Expressway in Minakami City, Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo. Heavy snowfall was occurring in the area at the time, and the roads were reported to be covered in snow. Police believe the road conditions may have contributed to the accident. Following the incident, both lanes of the expressway were closed, and there is no set date for when they will reopen.
