Bangkok: "Mallika Fever" is sweeping through Silom as Dr. Mallika Boonmeetrakul Mahasuk, candidate number 14 for Bangkok Governor, captures the attention of young office workers with her transformative urban strategies.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Mallika's visit to the bustling Silom Road, particularly Soi 5 and Soi 10, during the office lunch hour, was met with enthusiasm from the younger generations, Generation Z and Generation Y. Her policies, which focus on addressing critical urban issues such as traffic congestion, high living costs, and economic improvement, have resonated deeply with this demographic.
The office workers and young residents have identified urgent issues affecting their daily lives, including rising living costs, lengthy commutes, persistent traffic jams, high public transportation expenses, insufficient green spaces, poor air quality due to PM2.5 levels, and nighttime safety concerns.
In the heart of Bangkok, areas like Silom, Sathorn, Sukhumvit, Asoke, Rama IV, and Ratchathewi continue to struggle with significant challenges such as traffic congestion, frequent flooding, stagnant business activities, unorganized sidewalks, incomplete public transport systems, and escalating living expenses.
Dr. Mallika has proposed a comprehensive "Human Innovation" strategy, a 14-point plan that leverages technology to address these urban challenges. Key initiatives include an AI Traffic system for real-time traffic management, an AI Flood Radar system for early flood warnings, expanded green spaces, and enhanced 24-hour security through smart lighting and surveillance systems.
Additionally, the Street Food Paradise policy aims to boost the urban economy by supporting small business owners, providing them with better access to funding and business opportunities.
Dr. Mallika emphasized, "Bangkok must be a city of opportunity for people of all ages, especially the younger generation who are the key drivers of the economy. We will create a city with convenient transportation, safety, good employment opportunities, and a high quality of life for all 50 districts."
The positive response to Dr. Mallika's field visit highlights the growing interest among working professionals and young people in innovative urban development solutions that promise real changes in their daily lives.
