Bangkok: Mallika Boonmeetrakul Mahasuk, a candidate for Bangkok Governor, has unveiled an ambitious plan aimed at transforming Bangkok into a 24-hour safe city by addressing 10 high-risk areas identified as prone to crime and unforeseen incidents. The plan, announced near the Phra Nangklao Bridge, focuses on leveraging AI Prompt technology to generate instant alerts in case of threats.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Mallika emphasized that these high-risk areas, including dark walkways and secluded spots, pose significant safety challenges for residents, tourists, and commuters. The initiative seeks to ensure safety around the clock for all demographics, emphasizing the need for a city that accommodates modern lifestyles, where individuals can safely be outside their homes any time of the day.
Dr. Mallika highlighted that the current safety measures in Bangkok are inadequate due to a lack of systematic management rather than just insufficient law enforcement or surveillance cameras. The plan proposes using AI technology to provide immediate alerts, enhancing the city's ability to respond to potential incidents. The strategy includes four key measures to bolster security.
Firstly, the plan involves a comprehensive survey to compile a database of high-risk areas across Bangkok. This data will be publicly available, with a clear timeline for addressing identified issues. The second measure focuses on increasing lighting and improving the environment in neglected areas. This involves installing LED and solar-powered lighting, trimming obstructive trees, and removing blind spot obstacles.
The third measure introduces the use of smart cameras and AI-enhanced real-time surveillance centers, ensuring CCTV cameras are effectively integrated into a central control system to alert authorities promptly. Lastly, public participation is deemed crucial for achieving a safer city, encouraging citizens to actively engage in safety initiatives.
Dr. Mallika underscored that safety is a fundamental right for all citizens and emphasized the need for proactive measures rather than reactive responses. The vision for a safer Bangkok includes designing a city where people can confidently live, work, travel, and relax at all times. The plan focuses on dismantling systemic obstacles and fostering a collaborative environment to enhance urban safety.
