Mananchaya Settles for Silver as Iala Shines in Women’s Singles Final at SEA Games 2025

This result secured a silver medal for Mananchaya, as she was unable to overcome the top-ranked player in the region.

According to Thai News Agency, the tennis final at the 33rd SEA Games, held at the National Tennis Development Center in Nonthaburi Province, featured a highly anticipated matchup between “Mai” Mananchaya Sawangkeaw, ranked 3rd in the SEA Games and 238th globally, and Alexandra Iala, the Filipino sensation who holds the top SEA Games ranking and is 52nd in the world. The match drew a large number of sports enthusiasts from Thailand and the Philippines, eager to see the clash of these tennis talents.

Throughout the competition, both athletes showcased their skills, yet it was Alexandra Iala who dominated the court, clinching a 2-0 victory with set scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Her exceptional performance earned her the gold medal in the women’s singles category, while Mananchaya, competing in her first SEA Games, proudly took home the silver. The bronze medals were awarded to Thassaporn Naklo of Thailand and Janice Chen of Indonesia.

In the men’s singles semifinals, Maximus Parapon Jones, a 21-year-old Thai-Australian player ranked 357th worldwide, made an impressive debut at the SEA Games. He overcame Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong of Malaysia, who is ranked 759th in the world, with a decisive two-set win of 6-3, 6-1.

Maximus’s victory propelled him to the final, where he faced Kasidit Samrej, a 24-year-old member of the Thai national team ranked 419th globally. Samrej defeated Muhammad Rifky Fitriadi of Indonesia, the reigning 2023 SEA Games gold medalist, with a score of 6-2, 7-5, thus securing his gold medal in the men’s singles event. Samrej’s performance was set to continue with competition on December 19th.
