Sattahip: Overwhelmed with faith, a large crowd of Buddhists from local and distant areas gathered at Khao Phloy Meditation Center for the casting ceremony of an impressive 6-meter-tall walking Buddha statue. The temple grounds were filled with an atmosphere of strong devotion, reflecting the significance of this event in the Sattahip District, Chonburi Province.
According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony was led by Phra Ratchawisutthimuni (Luang Pu Yuen Khantiphalo), the abbot of Wat Khao Sala Atulathanacharo (Dhammayut) in Surin Province and former Provincial Chief Monk of Surin. The event also saw the participation of renowned monks from the eastern regions, including Chanthaburi, Rayong, and Chonburi.
On the secular front, Admiral Korawit Chayarathee, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Fleet, took part in the ceremony as well. The event involved various naval units such as the Coastal Patrol Fleet, the 1st and 2nd Frigates, the Helicopter Carrier Fleet, and the Mine Warfare Fleet, showcasing a collaborative effort from all sectors.
The highlight of the occasion was the casting of the "Phra Ketu" or the topknot of the walking Buddha statue's head. This segment allowed devotees to contribute pure gold and valuable jewelry, which were melted and incorporated into the statue. This practice, steeped in tradition, is believed to bring good fortune and life progress, symbolizing the Buddha's steady, forward steps.
Khao Phloy Meditation Center is a significant destination for spiritual seekers in the Sattahip area. Positioned on a hilltop, it offers breathtaking views of Sattahip Bay and the surrounding islands, making it a popular spot for both religious practices and spiritual tourism.
The ceremony underscored not just the faith in Buddhism but also highlighted the enduring importance of Buddha images as focal points in Thai society, acting as a powerful unifying force through generations.
