Massive Influx of Calls to Thailand’s 1444 Hotline for Polling Station and Referendum Inquiries

Bangkok: Crowds have inundated Thailand's 1444 hotline with calls regarding polling stations and the ongoing referendum. According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) experienced a surge in calls starting at 7:00 AM, as people sought information particularly about advance voting and locating polling stations. Mr. Veera Yiprae, Deputy Secretary-General of the ECT, noted that some citizens who registered for advance voting in parliamentary elections faced difficulties in registering for the referendum outside their districts. Consequently, they must vote at their registered polling stations unless prevented by distance, illness, or other valid reasons, which must be communicated to the authorities. Mr. Veera explained that voters will receive three ballots: for constituency MPs, party-list MPs, and the referendum. He emphasized that voters should refer to notification letters sent to their homes for polling station details and contact district offices if they encounter issues. Onl y two polling locations, Huai Khwang and Lak Si, were relocated due to space constraints, with advance public announcements and shuttle services provided to assist voters. The 1444 hotline, currently staffed with 10 lines, is actively addressing public inquiries and coordinating with other agencies as necessary. Mr. Veera assured that the hotline will operate until midnight and confirmed the absence of complaints regarding the performance of election officials at polling stations. He stated that any concerns raised will be addressed through coordination with provincial and district election offices to ensure compliance with legal procedures.
