Bangkok: The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has expressed concern over the safety of individuals residing in regions affected by flooding due to heavy rains and escalating water levels. The MEA urges those in these vulnerable areas to take immediate steps to safeguard themselves from potential electrical hazards. Residents are advised to relocate electrical outlets and appliances to higher ground when water levels threaten electrical equipment and to stay updated with the latest news.
According to Thai News Agency, the MEA has outlined specific safety measures for electrical use during floods. Before flooding occurs, individuals should disconnect the main breaker and elevate electrical equipment to prevent water damage. In the event of flooding, homes with more than one story should have separate breakers for each floor and should disconnect the ground floor breaker immediately. Residents are advised not to touch light switches, use electricity while wet or in contact with water, and to stand on dry ground while wearing rubber shoes for protection. Single-story dwellings should refrain from using electricity altogether and evacuate as soon as possible. It is crucial never to use plugs or switches that have been submerged in water.
Post-flood, all electrical appliances must be inspected by a qualified technician before being put back into use. The MEA assures the public of its readiness to provide electrical assistance services, including the relocation of electrical plugs and meters. Residents can reach out to the nearest Metropolitan Electricity Authority office or report incidents swiftly through the MEA Smart Life Application, available on both iOS and Android devices, as well as via the Line social media platform under MEA Connect (@MEAthailand). For direct assistance, the MEA Call Center Online can be contacted at 1130, with services available round the clock.
