Bangkok: MEA, or the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, is expressing concerns for residents affected by flooding in many areas, resulting from heavy rainfall and rising water levels. MEA advises residents in at-risk areas to move electrical outlets and appliances to higher ground if water levels begin to rise near electrical equipment, to prevent electrical leaks and equipment damage.
According to Thai News Agency, MEA is closely monitoring news updates and recommends several electrical safety practices during flooding. Before a flood, residents should turn off the main breaker and relocate electrical equipment to a higher place to avoid flooding. During flooding, two-story houses should have separate breakers for each floor and immediately disconnect the breakers on the ground floor. Residents are advised to avoid touching light switches and not to use electricity while wet or in contact with water, ensuring they stand on dry ground and wear rubber shoes. Single-story houses should refrain from using electricity and move out of the house if possible. It is critical not to use electrical outlets or switches that have been flooded.
After a flood, all electrical appliances should be inspected by a qualified technician before use. MEA is prepared to provide electrical assistance services, including relocating electrical plugs and meters. Residents can contact their nearest Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) office or report issues online via the MEA Smart Life Application on iOS and Android smartphones, as well as through the social media platform Line: MEA Connect (@MEAthailand). For immediate assistance, they can call the MEA Call Center Online at 1130, which is available 24/7.
