MEA Launches “TOU Plus” Project to Recruit 2,000 Residential Electricity Users

Bangkok: MEA has announced the launch of its “TOU Plus” project, aiming to recruit 2,000 residential electricity users to participate in a trial comparing Time of Use (TOU) electricity rates with standard rates at no cost.

According to Thai News Agency, the initiative supports government policy to reduce electricity bills for the public by installing TOU-rate electricity meters for selected participants. These participants will compare electricity bills under the normal rate (rate 1.2) and the TOU rate (rate 1.3) over three billing cycles. MEA will provide results via e-mail, and participants wishing to permanently switch to TOU rates must cover any associated fees set by MEA.

To qualify, applicants must be type 1.2 residential electricity users, own an individual electricity meter, and be registered for MEA e-Service with verified identity and contact information. Applications open on Monday, December 1, 2025, starting at 7:30 a.m. and will be accepted until 2,000 applicants are reached. Submissions can be made at MEA offices or through the MEA Call Center 24/7.

Applicants are advised to use at least 400 units of electricity per month and update any name or surname changes before applying. TOU tariffs are based on the Energy Regulatory Commission’s announcement, with specific on-peak and off-peak periods detailed for weekdays and weekends.

Participants not previously enrolled in MEA e-Service will earn 1,000 MEA Points upon registration, which can be redeemed for rewards under MEA’s terms and conditions.
