Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior has announced a collaboration with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the provinces of Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan to enhance fire and disaster management. Through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), these entities aim to boost public safety and improve disaster response systems.
According to Thai News Agency, the signing ceremony of the MOU was attended by Lieutenant Colonel Trakul Thotham, Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior. The ceremony, presided over by Mr. Dichawat Chan-ee, Governor of MEA, included prominent figures such as Mr. Suriyachai Raviwan from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ms. Panisara Kanjanachitra, Deputy Governor of Nonthaburi Province, and Mr. Nikul Thanavorametha, Deputy Governor of Samut Prakan Province. Held at the MEA Auditorium in Khlong Toei, the agreement sets out to streamline command and coordination systems for efficient power outage responses during fires, aligning with the Ministry of Interior's urgent policies.
This initiative is part of the Ministry of Interior's "Action 5 PLUS" policy, which emphasizes urban safety and disaster management. The collaboration reflects a pressing need to elevate disaster management standards, following years of joint activities between MEA and disaster prevention agencies. The objective is to foster public confidence in safety through an integrated cooperation framework across MEA's service areas in the three provinces.
The Inspector General highlighted the Ministry's commitment to prioritizing public safety through the "Action 5 PLUS" policy. The joint efforts of MEA, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan are crucial for effective disaster response. The MOU aims to establish operational protocols for rapid power shutdowns during fires, enabling safe extinguishing efforts and minimizing casualties and property damage.
Mr. Dichawat Chan-ee emphasized MEA's readiness to adhere to the Action 5 PLUS policy. In Bangkok, MEA collaborates with the local disaster prevention department through established communication channels such as the 199 hotline. In Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan, where firefighting duties are managed by local organizations, the MOU will integrate MEA's communication network with provincial rescue command centers. MEA is also deploying advanced technologies like intelligent power control systems and emergency procedure simulations to enhance incident response and community safety, following the principle of "Fast response, quick assistance, minimal damage."
