Bangkok: Weather conditions require vigilance. Recently, summer storms have hit several areas, including Khon Buri District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, where heavy rain and strong winds lashed for 10 minutes, damaging over 20 houses. The Meteorological Department warns of a new wave of summer storms from April 28 to May 1.
According to Thai News Agency, the damage after a severe summer storm hit the Sai Yok Chaiyawan sub-district, Khon Buri district, Nakhon Ratchasima province last night (April 26). The storm, which lasted nearly 10 minutes with heavy rain and gusty winds, damaged more than 20 houses. Village No. 2 suffered particularly severe damage, with four houses having their roofs almost completely blown off.
One of the homes was that of Mrs. Phuean Chidkraburi, 65 years old. She said the storm was very violent and terrifying. The wind blew the roof panels and wooden structure of a neighboring house, sending them crashing into the second floor of her house, causing extensive damage. Fortunately, no one in the house was injured because everyone, including children, was sheltering downstairs. Mrs. Phuean also said that in her more than 60 years of life, she had never experienced such a severe storm before.
Municipal officials and disaster prevention and mitigation officers immediately surveyed the damage. They found that more than 20 houses were damaged, and one large tree had fallen, damaging power lines and a utility pole. Officials are working urgently to alleviate the suffering of the affected residents.
The Meteorological Department has warned northern Thailand to prepare for a new wave of "summer storms" from April 28th to May 1st. These storms will bring thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in some areas, as well as possible lightning strikes. The storms will initially affect the northeastern, northern, and eastern regions, with the central region, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, to follow.
