Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued warning number 6, highlighting increased rainfall across Thailand from today until July 3, 2026. This announcement comes as parts of the country brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds, particularly in the eastern and western southern regions.
According to Thai News Agency, the warning outlines the impact of a monsoon trough passing over northern and upper northeastern regions, alongside a strengthening southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents in affected areas are urged to stay vigilant, as the heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation could lead to flash floods and landslides, particularly in regions on slopes near waterways and low-lying zones.
The upper Andaman Sea is expected to experience rough sea conditions, with waves reaching heights of 2-3 meters from June 29th to July 3rd, 2026. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, wave heights may exceed 3 meters. In the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, wave heights will be around 2 meters, potentially surpassing this in stormy weather. Mariners are advised to exercise caution, avoiding areas with thunderstorms, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore during this period.
The weather forecast for Thailand from 7:00 AM today to 7:00 AM tomorrow indicates varying chances of thunderstorms and heavy rain across different regions. The northern region faces a 40% chance of thunderstorms, particularly affecting Tak and Kamphaeng Phet provinces. In contrast, the central region shows a 60% chance, impacting provinces such as Nakhon Sawan and Uthai Thani.
The eastern region is expected to see heavy to very heavy rainfall, with a 60% chance, particularly affecting provinces like Chonburi and Trat. The southern region's eastern coast has a similar chance of thunderstorms, notably in Chumphon and Surat Thani provinces, while the western coast faces a 70% chance, notably impacting provinces like Phuket and Krabi.
In Bangkok and surrounding areas, there is a 70% chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 25-27 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 34-36 degrees Celsius. Southwesterly winds are expected to blow at 10-20 km/hr.
