Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued an urgent warning regarding severe summer storms expected to affect upper Thailand from April 16 to April 20, 2026. Residents in the affected regions are advised to remain vigilant as thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hail are anticipated, along with occasional lightning strikes.
According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department released Warning No. 3, indicating that the storms will initially impact the northeastern and eastern regions before moving towards the central region, including Bangkok and its surroundings, and eventually reaching the northern region. The severe weather conditions are attributed to a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China, which is spreading over the South China Sea. This phenomenon is intensifying the southerly and southeasterly winds covering the lower northeastern and eastern regions of Thailand, coinciding with hot to very hot weather in the upper parts of the country.
The Meteorological Department advises the public to avoid open spaces, large trees, and unstable structures during this period. Citizens are encouraged to stay updated with the latest announcements from the department. Information can be accessed through the Meteorological Department's website at http://www.tmd.go.th or by contacting their hotline numbers available 24 hours a day. The department plans to release the next update on April 16, 2026, at 5:00 AM.
