BANGKOK: The Metropolitan Police Bureau has confirmed that officers from the Wang Thonglang Police Station were not negligent in the recent raid on a gambling den. The raid, conducted jointly with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), led to the arrest of those involved in illegal gambling activities concealed within a building, after public tip-offs prompted law enforcement action.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, stated that officers from the Children and Women Protection Division, in collaboration with the investigation unit of the Metropolitan Police Bureau and Wang Thonglang Police Station, arrested individuals at a Chinese gambling den located in Soi Sahakon Pramul, Bangkok, last night. The operation followed clear evidence obtained from the public, revealing that the area was inaccessible to local Thais. Consequently, plainclothes DSI police were deployed to gather intelligence and coordinate with Wang Thonglang Pol
ice Station, aligning with the policy of Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police.

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner highlighted the presence of significant foreign business investments in areas like Wang Thonglang, Huai Khwang, and Sutthisan, which sometimes lead to exploitation by those involved in illegal activities. He emphasized the need for vigilant monitoring and public cooperation to uncover illicit operations in condominiums and high-rise buildings, which often elude patrol officers. The Commissioner acknowledged the challenge of detecting such activities and stressed the necessity of thorough investigations. While Wang Thonglang police were initially found to have conducted their duties responsibly, the Commissioner reiterated the importance of accountability, noting that disciplinary action would follow if negligence was later discovered. Conversely, justice would be ensured if officers were found to have acted appropriately.
