Bangkok: The Minister of Defense has ordered an investigation into the incident of the Thai national flag rope being cut in the U-shaped area of Ban Phak Kad, Chanthaburi Province. This decision was made despite Cambodia's insistence that they did not encroach or commit the act, leaving the Minister unconvinced.

According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defense, presided over a ceremony commemorating the 244th anniversary of the Bangkok City Pillar Shrine. The event was attended by notable figures including General Kantanat Nikoryanont, Director of the Veterans Welfare Organization, and Somdej Phra Maha Veerawong, Secretary to the Supreme Patriarch. The City Pillar Shrine, which serves as a gathering place for Thai and foreign devotees, houses important deities that symbolize the nation's independence and prosperity.

Regarding the disappearance of the Thai flag from its flagpole near Ban Phak Krad, Lt. Gen. Adul received reports that military units had communicated with the Cambodian Military Region 3 commander, who assured that they did not interfere or infringe on Thai sovereignty. However, Lt. Gen. Adul remains skeptical of Cambodia's claims and has directed an investigation to identify the perpetrator. He emphasized that the area is under Thai control and is being guarded by troops, although he remains uncertain whether the flag's disappearance was due to human action or natural causes. He acknowledged local residents' images showing the rope being cut, considering such incidents typical along the border.

In response, local units have promptly raised a new flag and enhanced security measures by increasing patrols and installing additional concertina wire in vulnerable areas along the border.
