Bang rakam: The Minister of Interior visited Bang Rakam District to distribute relief bags and emphasized the need to provide full care to the people. The visit aimed to support flood victims by distributing relief packages and encouraging government officials and citizens to expedite the repair of essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and public utilities.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sakda Wichiensin, Deputy Minister of Interior, alongside a team of high-level officials, visited the Bang Rakam District Office in Phitsanulok Province to oversee flood relief efforts. The delegation included Mr. Jumpot Wannachatsiri, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior; Mr. Saharat Wongsakulwiwat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation; Mr. Boonlue Baramee, Deputy Governor of Phitsanulok Province; Ms. Pimpicha Chaisuphakitcharoen, a Member of the House of Representatives for Phitsanulok Province; and Lieutenant Colonel Niyom Changphinij, along with other local officials.
During the visit, Mr. Sakda led the distribution of 500 relief packages from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to those affected by the floods. He highlighted the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens, reiterating the instructions from Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul for provincial and local authorities to adhere to the national disaster prevention and mitigation plan. The Deputy Minister emphasized the government’s attention to assisting vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and the disabled, amid the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Bualoi.
Mr. Sakda conveyed that the government remains committed to addressing the needs of the affected populations, particularly in terms of housing, security, and health. He urged local authorities to prioritize repairing public infrastructure to facilitate movement and recovery efforts. The government plans to conduct a damage assessment to offer further assistance to farmers, homeowners, and businesses once the situation stabilizes.
The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude towards the collaborative efforts from various sectors, highlighting the community spirit that characterizes Thai society. He commended the collective dedication and encouraged all involved to continue their efforts towards a unified recovery.
The water situation in the Bang Rakam Model area remains critical as water from Sukhothai continues to inundate the region, affecting key roads and infrastructure. The area has surpassed its water storage capacity, delaying drainage into the central basin and the Nan River. The situation is expected to persist for several weeks, necessitating ongoing monitoring and management by local authorities.
