Bangkok: Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol Nawarat, Minister of Justice, addressed concerns related to the National Human Rights Commission's (NHRC) objection over the inclusion of a criminal record of family members of Mr. Patarapong Supakorn, also known as Lawyer Aun Buriram, who is involved in the investigation of the Khao Kradong case. He clarified that his intention was not to diminish the rights of Lawyer Aun's family but to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the interview's context.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol emphasized the Ministry of Justice's commitment to respecting the rights of both convicted and ex-convicted individuals. He stated that while he respects the rights and freedoms of individuals and considers the impact on prisoners and former convicts, it is crucial to have a broader perspective on the situation. He underscored that relying solely on a single statement is inadequate and that his explanations to the media were based on a clear rationale.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol reiterated that the Ministry does not support stigmatizing prisoners. He highlighted the Ministry's various projects that provide extensive assistance and care for prisoners and ex-convicts. As an example, he mentioned a boxer under probation on Koh Samui who was wearing an electronic monitoring (EM) device. Due to his employment as a boxing trainer earning over 60,000 baht a month, he met the criteria for having the device removed, a request that was subsequently granted by the Department of Probation.
