Minister Varawut Launches Nationwide Factory Inspections to Combat Toxic Waste

Bangkok:Authorities have initiated a major crackdown on toxic waste by inspecting 3,049 factories across the nation. Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, emphasizing the importance of protecting local residents, insists that the law will be applied uniformly with no exceptions.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Industrial Works under the Ministry of Industry, led by Minister Varawut, has launched a stringent inspection and enforcement operation targeting factories categorized as Nos. 105 and 106. The initiative includes involvement from Mr. Paskorn Chairat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, and other political and government officials who participated in the event before heading out to inspect the targeted facilities.

Minister Varawut expressed that successful industrial development must consider not only investment and economic growth but also the safety of people, community impact, and environmental protection. He stressed that the Ministry of Industry must support economic progress while safeguarding the public. The inspections are part of a broader effort to ensure that industrial development strengthens the economy without transferring risks and damages onto the public.

The inspection process is prioritized based on risk, focusing on factories with a history of complaints or violations. If any deficiencies or illegal activities are found during inspections, they will be thoroughly followed up and addressed with legal actions if necessary. Mr. Varawut has instructed officials to ensure thorough investigations and coordinate with relevant agencies to resolve any discovered issues promptly.

Mr. Pasakorn Chairat plays a crucial role in aligning the Ministry’s policies with operations at both central and regional levels. Coordination with the Department of Industrial Works, provincial industrial offices, and ministry inspectors is essential to share resources and address any challenges faced during inspections. The operational framework includes completing Group A and B inspections by November 2026 and Group C by December 2026, with continuous progress reports and immediate action on any limitations encountered.

Minister Varawut reiterated the Ministry's commitment to protecting public safety and the environment while enforcing laws rigorously, aiming to demonstrate to the public that business growth support is coupled with a dedication to public and environmental safety.
