Suphan buri: Minister Varawut conducted an inspection at an ice factory due to an ammonia leak, resulting in its temporary closure. The inspection comes on the heels of an incident at the Boonwan 2019 Co., Ltd. ice factory in the Derm Bang Nang Buach District, Suphan Buri Province, where ammonia leaked from the ice-making machinery.
According to Thai News Agency, Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, alongside the Suphan Buri Provincial Industry Officer, assessed the situation and reported that schools within the vicinity, spanning a 200-meter to 1-kilometer radius, experienced some impact. Fortunately, no students were seriously injured, although some reported respiratory problems and nasal irritation, both of which were promptly treated. The factory's operations have been suspended under the Factory Act B.E. 2535 (1992) until necessary repairs are completed and certification is secured from the Department of Industrial Works.
Minister Varawut emphasized the importance of vigilance in high-risk areas and urged factory operators to inspect machinery, production lines, electrical systems, and transformers, especially during periods of rising temperatures that could increase accident risks. He also committed to taking decisive actions against factories operating without the proper permits, underscoring the government's commitment to maintaining industrial safety standards.
