Surin: Mr. Nikorn Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, has taken decisive action by dispatching Mr. Chanin Rungthanakiat, Advisor to the Minister, to address allegations of bribery related to disability identification cards in Surin Province.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chanin led a meeting with key local officials, including Mr. Kitti Sattsue, Deputy Governor of Surin Province, and representatives from relevant provincial offices, to tackle complaints that emerged on social media regarding fraudulent processing fees for disability identification. The meeting concluded with several significant resolutions aimed at restoring trust and transparency in the issuance process.

The first resolution centered on the screening process for eligibility. It was revealed that a doctor at the Surin Provincial Public Health Office had issued disability certificates to about 3,000 individuals out of 5,000 examined over a few years. However, not all applicants received certificates, and further verification is ongoing to ensure fairness. Surin Hospital is tasked with confirming the accuracy of issued certificates to maintain public confidence.

The second resolution addressed allegations of unauthorized service fees. Provincial Social Development and Health Offices confirmed that disability registration is entirely free of charge. Past limitations may have led to intermediaries exploiting the system for bribes. Consequently, efforts are underway to publicize the fee-free nature of the service, and citizens facing issues can reach out to the Ministry's hotline for assistance.

A collaborative initiative was proposed to establish mobile one-stop service units, which will rotate through different areas to ease access and mitigate the risk of exploitation by intermediaries.

Finally, the meeting tackled a specific complaint involving a network demanding bribes of 500 baht plus silk fabric. The Deputy Governor has gathered initial information and is committed to cooperating with further investigations. He assured the safety of those providing evidence and pledged that legal actions will be enforced rigorously.

Mr. Chanin emphasized Minister Nikorn's policy of ensuring transparent and accountable access to welfare benefits, including disability identification cards, for all citizens. Any detected misconduct will be addressed to the fullest extent of the law.
