Bangkok: The Ministry of Agriculture is prepared to work alongside the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to examine the effects of the black-chinned tilapia infestation. Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Wacharapol, confirmed the ministry's readiness to investigate the spread and damage caused by this species. The Department of Fisheries has been tasked with keeping a daily track of the situation, aiming to control the outbreak, remove the fish from affected ecosystems, and explore ways to utilize them for economic benefit.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Mr. Watcharaphol Khaokham, disclosed that in response to an inquiry from Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture has directed its agencies to urgently explore the origins of the black-chinned tilapia infestation and collect solid evidence of the resultant damage. He emphasized the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives' willingness to collaborate with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, providing support and information as needed.
Mr. Watcharaphol further instructed the Department of Fisheries to take swift action in controlling the spread of the infestation, removing it from ecosystems, and finding ways to harness its value. Continuous implementation of these measures has been ordered, particularly in coastal areas, to halt the disease's spread promptly.
Additionally, there is a directive to closely monitor and report on the situation, with the Department of Fisheries required to provide daily updates to evaluate the situation and speed up the development of strategies to prevent further proliferation.
