Bangkok: The Ministry of Commerce has confirmed a stable domestic supply of chemical fertilizers, sufficient for at least five months, as it implements strict measures to prevent price gouging in the market. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nantapong Chiraleartpong, Director of the Office of Trade Policy and Strategy and the Ministry's spokesperson, addressed the media during a press conference by the Center for Monitoring and Managing the Conflict in the Middle East (CMA). He highlighted that the Ministry is actively monitoring the fertilizer situation, a commodity regulated under the Price Control Act. Fertilizer importers must report their import quantities monthly, and manufacturers and distributors are required to report stock levels by the 10th of each month. This system allows the government to effectively oversee inventory levels continuously. The assessment of current fertilizer stocks, together with additional imports, ensures that Thailand will have adequate supplies for agricultural use for a t least five months. The importation of fertilizers will continue to replenish stocks during this time. Fertilizers available in the market currently derive from stocks procured before the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, thus preventing any price hikes. The Ministry will vigilantly observe global market prices and manage the domestic price structure to minimize the impact on farmers. Provincial commerce offices across the nation have been instructed to conduct thorough inspections of fertilizer sales. Legal action will be taken against any instances of overcharging or unjustified price increases, in accordance with the Price Control Act of 1999, which carries penalties of up to seven years in prison, a fine of up to 140,000 baht, or both. A spokesperson for the Ministry emphasized the adequacy of the domestic fertilizer supply, urging farmers not to rush into buying or hoarding. Complaints about unfair sales practices can be directed to the Department of Internal Trade hotline at 1569 or filed at provincial commerce offices nationwide.
