Ministry of Commerce Launches ‘New Year Mega Sale 2026’ to Slash Cost of Living

Bangkok: The Ministry of Commerce has announced the launch of the ‘Commerce Price Reduction New Year Mega Sale 2026’ campaign, a strategic initiative aimed at reducing the cost of living.

According to Thai News Agency, the campaign is a collaborative effort involving over 250 manufacturers, businesses, and modern trade retailers, offering discounts of up to 80% on various products. This initiative is projected to save citizens over 5 billion baht.

Mr. Wutikrai Leewiraphan, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, presided over the opening ceremony of the campaign. The Department of Internal Trade has coordinated efforts to ensure these significant discounts are available at the Ministry of Commerce from December 23-25, 2025, and will be extended nationwide until January 31, 2026. This initiative is expected to ease the financial burden on the public significantly.

Mr. Witiyakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, stated that the project aligns with the Ministry of Commerce’s policy to mitigate financial pressure on citizens during the New Year festival. The campaign also aims to stimulate the domestic economy and provide practical support to Thai farmers and entrepreneurs.

The event includes various booths offering over ten thousand items, with promotions and discounts of up to 80%. It aims to ease the financial strain on people during the year’s end and the New Year. The Department of Internal Trade is also focusing on assisting entrepreneurs in vulnerable areas by including businesses from seven provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border. This initiative aims to expand market channels and generate income amid the current economic situation, showcasing regional products such as beef from Buriram province.

Additionally, the event facilitates direct sales of agricultural products from producers, including three-water sea bass from Songkhla province. This effort supports farmers affected by recent floods by distributing their produce and expanding market channels. The campaign also emphasizes the sale and processing of Thai agricultural products under the concept of “Thai people helping Thai people, buying Thai products, sustainable Thai economy.”

The ‘Commerce Discount New Year Mega Sale 2026’ project is expected to generate at least 20 million baht in economic activity over the three-day sale period at the Ministry of Commerce. The public is encouraged to participate by purchasing products and services, with a wish for safe travels, family happiness, and a good quality of life throughout the New Year and into 2026.
