Ministry of Culture Initiative to Preserve Thai Arts and Honor Queen Sirikit’s Legacy

Bangkok: The Ministry of Culture has initiated a project to preserve Thai arts and honor the grace of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. This initiative, launched by the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture, is part of a broader effort to transform the Thailand Cultural Center into a cultural learning hub.

According to Thai News Agency, the project was inaugurated by Ms. Yuthika Isarangkun Na Ayudhya, Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion. The event, titled “Preserving Thai Arts, Joining in Commemorating the Grace of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother,” saw participation from notable figures such as Ms. Lipikar Kamlangchai and Ms. Waraphan Chaichanasiri, Deputy Director-Generals of the Department of Cultural Promotion, among others. The ceremony took place at the multipurpose building of the Thailand Cultural Center.

Mrs. Yuthika Isarangkun Na Ayudhya highlighted that the project aims to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s contributions to arts and culture while providing a platform for children, youth, and the public to engage with Thai arts meaningfully. The initiative aligns with the performance of the “Satya Pali” episode of the Royal Family Foundation’s Khon performance, which celebrates the Queen Mother’s enduring support for the performing arts in Thailand.

The Department of Cultural Promotion thanks the National Artists, Silpathorn Artists, performing groups, and cultural networks for contributing to this diverse activity. This includes traditional, folk, and creative performances, as well as international music and contemporary performances. These efforts are seen as vital in preserving Thailand’s cultural heritage for future generations.

Ms. Warapan Chaichanasiri emphasized the Thailand Cultural Center’s role as a hub for showcasing national and international arts and cultural performances. The center is committed to preserving and promoting Thai arts and culture through activities that draw from local and indigenous wisdom. The initiative also serves as a platform for cultural learning and recreation, encouraging productive use of free time and fostering appreciation for various cultures.

The cultural performances are scheduled to take place on weekends between 15 November and 7 December 2025 at the Multipurpose Building. These events are an integration of the Department of Cultural Promotion’s network, involving national artists, cultural experts, and educational institutions. The Thailand Cultural Centre, equipped with facilities like the main auditorium and multipurpose building, supports this transformation into a cultural learning center in Bangkok.

This initiative underscores the importance of developing learning resources and transferring cultural heritage. It opens up cultural spaces, fostering an open society that promotes a multicultural environment and acceptance of cultural differences. By promoting creative artistic learning, the project aims to instill an understanding of the value and aesthetics of various cultures and arts.
