Bangkok: The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) convened an urgent meeting with the police and META to finalize measures aimed at preventing the live-streaming of obscene content on Facebook.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Mr. Chaiyanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and included key figures such as Dr. Chaichana Mitrphan, Director of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), Pol. Maj. Gen. Niwes Apavasin, Deputy Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Chananat Sarathavalyaep, Commander of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau. Representatives from Meta, Facebook's parent company, were also in attendance in Thailand.
The minister disclosed prior to the meeting that he had called upon relevant agencies to deliberate on preventative and suppressive measures. This move comes in the wake of a recent marathon live-streaming incident that broadcast obscene content for several hours. Continuous coordination meetings have been conducted to address the issue effectively.
Reports indicate that the meeting aims to expedite actions and discussions with the cyber police, following an order to investigate the URL and individuals linked to the content. Should these individuals be identified as Thai citizens or residing in Thailand, they will face prosecution under the Computer Crime Act for importing obscene information into a computer system.
Additionally, discussions with the platform focused on understanding the failure of the system to immediately detect and block the inappropriate content, despite its large viewership.
