Bangkok: The Ministry of Education has unveiled new guidelines aimed at managing educational institution curricula and promoting the learning of history and civic duties. The new framework is designed to align with the Ministry’s policy of fostering an understanding of Thai history and civic responsibilities under a democratic regime with the King as Head of State.
According to Thai News Agency, Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, the Minister of Education, emphasized the significance of instilling knowledge of Thai history and civic duties among children and youth. The Ministry has tasked the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) with implementing these new curriculum management strategies. The guidelines aim to emphasize the teaching of history and civic duties from Prathom 1 to Mathayom 6 and encourage a comprehensive integration of these subjects into the school curriculum.
Key points of the guidelines include the promotion of history and civic duties in all areas of the curriculum, learning management, media selection, and learning outcome assessments. The Ministry encourages learning that is relevant to the current era by integrating contemporary issues and providing opportunities for participatory and hands-on learning, using digital technology and diverse media that suit various learning styles.
The evaluation processes are also set to change, focusing on the all-round development of students. They will move beyond traditional academic assessments to include discussions, reflective writing, portfolios, and projects. Prof. Dr. Narumon highlighted that these changes would provide teachers with more flexibility in teaching and allow students to be assessed in ways that reflect their individual interests and abilities.
Further, the guidelines are expected to support teachers in organizing learning experiences, with the Basic Education Commission providing policy support. A meeting will be held on November 27, 2025, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center to communicate these policy changes to basic education commissioners across the nation.
