Ministry of Finance Launches Second Series of Savings Plus Bonds with New Subscription Options

Bangkok: The Ministry of Finance announced the opening of subscriptions for a new round of "Savings Plus" bonds, commencing on September 4th. This initiative is aimed at ensuring widespread distribution, with a minimum purchase requirement set at 100 baht.

According to Thai News Agency, the second series of Savings Plus government bonds will be available for sale on September 4, 2026. The interest rates and maturities will remain consistent with the first series, featuring a 3-year bond with an annual return of 1.80% and a 10-year bond with an annual return of 2.80%. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, emphasized that the objective is to provide continued investment opportunities for the public. The first series of bonds was notably successful, attracting 22,703 individual investors nationwide and achieving a total subscription amount of 16,511 million baht, approximately eight times the offered amount. With the new series, investors will receive additional benefits compared to previous savings schemes.

Interested individuals have the flexibility to select an investment option that aligns with their savings preferences. Savings Plus bonds will be accessible for purchase through the Savings Plus Wallet on the Paotang application, with bonds being allocated according to the purchase amount starting September 4, 2026. Alternatively, investors have the option to subscribe via commercial banks, securities companies, and the Streaming application, with 24 distributors ensuring the availability of Savings Plus bonds to all investors between September 7-9, 2026. The total sale of Savings Plus bonds in September 2026 is set at 4 billion baht, divided equally between the Savings Plus Wallet and the Bond Connect Platform.

The government bond sales provide two main channels for purchase. The Savings Plus Bonds are available through the SBM Wallet on the Paotang application, ideal for individuals wishing to start saving with smaller sums, with purchases starting from 100 baht. The maximum purchase limit per transaction has been reduced to 1 million baht, with a maximum of 50 million baht per person, to encourage broader bond holdings. Additionally, the Bond Connect Platform offers subscriptions starting from 1,000 baht through 24 participating commercial banks and securities firms, as well as via the Streaming application. This channel employs a Small Lot First allocation method, ensuring all investors have an opportunity to receive bond allocations.

In cases where the final allocation amount is insufficient for all subscribers, the system will randomly allocate until the full amount is exhausted. Subscribers will be informed of the allocation results on September 10, 2026, and will receive refunds on the same day if they are not allocated bonds or receive less than their subscribed amount. The allocation amounts through the Savings Plus Wallet and the Bond Connect Platform are distinct, allowing investors to choose their preferred channel or invest through both. The Savings Plus Bond is a scripless bond, meaning no physical certificate will be issued. Investors can monitor their investments and transaction history through the specified channels, including the Streaming application and the Wiset application.
