Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior is advancing its initiative to conduct a comprehensive land survey with the goal of reducing inequality by issuing 86,000 land title deeds this year across 69 provinces. This effort aims to bolster land ownership stability and facilitate access to funding and investment opportunities.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Traisuree Traisaranakul, Secretary to the Minister of Interior and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to the government’s policy of land distribution to mitigate inequality. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, has tasked the Department of Lands with accelerating the nationwide survey and issuance of land title deeds. This initiative is designed to align with the target for land title issuance, thereby promoting land ownership stability and enabling access to financial resources for sustainable career investment.
In the fiscal year 2025, the Land Department has received budget allocation to carry out a land title survey project aiming at 86,000 plots in 69 provinces. The exceptions include Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Mae Hong Son, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, and Phuket, due to their already dense title deed issuance and extensive forest coverage.
The ministry has reported results from previous fiscal operations, spanning December 67 to April 68. The project included two parts: a nationwide survey and issuance of standardized land title deeds targeting 70,000 plots, of which 42,412 title deeds have been issued, covering an area of approximately 109,914 rai. Additionally, a project focused on enhancing security in southern border provinces targeted 16,000 plots, with 11,025 title deeds issued, covering roughly 14,659 rai.
Ms. Traisuree highlighted that the next operational phase involves addressing approximately 561,989 plots, covering an area of about 2,809,944.5 rai, that lack formal title deeds. The Ministry of Interior expects to complete the nationwide survey within seven years, utilizing data from public reports, complaints, petitions, and records from provincial and local land offices.
Since 1985, over a 40-year period, the Ministry of Interior, through the Land Department, has surveyed and issued land title deeds for 14,838,692 plots, encompassing an area of approximately 71,240,052 rai, noted Ms. Traisuree.
