Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior has released the results of a comprehensive investigation into discrepancies found in local government exam results, affecting as many as 5,000 individuals. These findings have been forwarded to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) for further examination.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Minister of Interior Worasit Liengprasit disclosed that a thorough audit of 15,000 exam answer sheets revealed significant discrepancies between the announced scores and the actual answer sheet files maintained by the Department of Local Administration. This investigation was initiated after Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul's random audit uncovered inconsistencies, prompting an expanded review of all individuals who had been called for recruitment.
The discrepancies, affecting around 5,000 individuals, will be addressed through multiple channels. The findings have been sent to the NACC for verification alongside evidence from Srinakharinwirot University. Furthermore, the Prime Minister's Office, under a committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan, and the Central Committee for Local Government Employee Examinations (CCGE) have been informed about the findings.
The NACC will undertake a comprehensive investigation to determine if the irregularities are linked to the list used by Srinakharinwirot University for examination purposes. The responsibility for accessing and verifying evidence from the university lies with the NACC, as the National Statistical Office (NSO) is limited to examining evidence within its possession.
Mr. Worasit also addressed concerns regarding the authority of the committee appointed by the Prime Minister to investigate this case. He clarified that the investigation remains the responsibility of the NACC, with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) participating as partner organizations, though they lack the authority to compare information.
For the 15,000 individuals who have already been appointed to positions, they will continue their roles until the investigation concludes. Should any of the 5,000 individuals with irregularities have been appointed, their appointments may be revoked. The decision on reclaiming salaries will follow further legal procedures.
In response to a press release from Srinakharinwirot University highlighting potential exam process loopholes, Mr. Worasit emphasized that the resolution of such issues falls under the purview of the NACC, rather than the Ministry of Interior.
