Nonthaburi:The Ministry of Interior has launched the photo book "Nareeratana Hattasilp" at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center. This book celebrates the 40th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana and her efforts to preserve and develop Thai textiles and handicrafts.
According to Thai News Agency, the event was attended by Mrs. Jinnaratcha Sampantharat, President of the Ministry of Interior Wives' Association, and Dr. Sarinda Jamornman, Advisor to the "Thai Fabric for Fun" project. Mr. Arsit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, highlighted the Princess's dedication to continuing the royal initiatives of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, reflecting Thai national identity through textiles and crafts.
The book is part of a historical picture book project initiated to commemorate the Princess's contributions. It marks the 5th year of publication, dating back to her 36th birthday in 2023. Her Royal Highness's initiatives have promoted Thai textiles across all 76 provinces, with regional competitions selecting the best works for recognition in Bangkok.
The Princess's efforts have been internationally acknowledged, with Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, awarding her a prestigious medal for her role in preserving cultural heritage and promoting fine arts. This recognition is a source of pride for Thailand and underscores the global significance of her work.
Mrs. Jinnaratcha noted the rapid evolution of Thai fabrics, emphasizing the shift towards natural dyes and sustainable fashion. Thai fabrics are now more vibrant and intricate, inspired by royal role models, and are adapting to create new styles and uses.
The market for Thai crafts is expanding with the help of e-commerce and live fashion shows, appealing to both Thai and international audiences. His Majesty the King has supported these efforts, promoting Thai crafts globally. The "Tout à fait Thaï 2026" festival in Paris, opened by His Majesty, showcased the demand for Thai crafts among foreigners, highlighting the pride and potential of Thai craftsmanship.
