Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has mandated comprehensive inspections of restaurants, pubs, and bars across the nation, to be completed within 30 days. This directive aims to enhance safety standards for service establishments and public buildings, following the Prime Minister's orders.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, the Permanent Secretary, emphasized the urgency of this initiative during a Cabinet meeting on July 14th. The Ministry of Interior is collaborating with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Royal Thai Police, and other relevant bodies to ensure the inspections are expedited. This action is a preventive measure in response to a recent fire incident at an entertainment venue on Lat Phrao Road, aiming to restore public and tourist confidence in safety protocols.
Mr. Arsit explained that the Ministry has instructed various departments and local administrations, including those in Bangkok and Pattaya, to elevate safety standards in entertainment venues. The Department of Provincial Administration is responsible for regulating these venues and maintaining a database of the inspection outcomes. Provincial and district offices will work with relevant agencies to inspect high-traffic venues and enforce the laws governing them.
The Department of Public Works and Town Planning is tasked with assessing the structural integrity of buildings, including fire prevention measures, fire exits, and building capacity. Expert engineers will assist provinces in inspecting establishments with significant public use, ensuring compliance with building control laws.
Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is preparing for fire prevention by inspecting fire systems and evacuation plans, conducting readiness assessments, and organizing fire drills with local agencies.
The Department of Local Administration is coordinating efforts among local government offices and agencies to ensure rigorous enforcement of safety laws. Provincial governors, including those of Bangkok and Pattaya, are directed to enhance local safety measures, focusing on fire prevention and compliance with safety standards. Integrated inspection teams will evaluate all relevant venues and public buildings within the 30-day period, compiling reports on those that pass inspections and those needing corrective actions.
The Ministry of Interior is committed to ensuring the safety of citizens through strict law enforcement and encourages the public to report any unsafe establishments via the Damrongtham Center hotline or local authorities.
